During a course titled Knowledge Organization I became interested in the cataloging issues involved with non-traditional materials. For the final project I delved into the world of zines. I researched how zine librarians address bibliographic control, subject analysis, classification, and physical access.
My research culminated in a paper, a class presentation, and a handmade zine about zine cataloging. This project strengthened my understanding of the relationship between organization and access. By examining the challenges faced with cataloging zines, I learned the importance of standardization to ensure users can find and access materials.
